Everyone is talking about it, half of everyone is doing it: Kickstarting, Indie GoGoing, crowdfunding their Comics. As with all things that are new there is considerable discussion about the positives, the negatives, and the just plain strange. Are we all gonna be comics millionaires? Moderator Heidi McDonald (The Beat) will ask crowdfunding participants and pros including George Rohac (Benign Kingdom), Holly Post (Topatoco/Make That Thing), Scott Chantler (True Patriot Comics), and C. Spike Trotman (Poorcraft, Smut Peddlar) these questions and many more.

11am-12pm        Quebecois Comics for an Anglophone Audience

The French-language comics scene in Quebec is doing gangbusters, but in English Canada and the rest of North America, information about this industry and scene is hard to come by. Come on out and get an education in the domestic comics market you might not have known anything about! Featuring  Antonin Buisson (creator), Frederic Gauthier (Publisher, La Pastque), Marc Tessier (Publisher, Editions Trip), and moderated by Simon Bossé. Includes a short appreciation of Quebec cartooning legend Albert Chartier, who will be inducted into the Giants of the North Canadian Cartooning Hall of Fame, at the 2013 Doug Wright Awards.

12:15-1:15pm     Live Nude Australian Cartoonists!

Ever wondered what happens down under where? In this session, Australia’s ‘Caravan of Comics’ crew give an exposé of the state of comics creation in Australia. It’s Robert Crumb huge! Really! Come and see for yourself. Featuring a selection of cartoonists which may include Bruce Mutard, Mirranda Burton, Scarlette Baccini, Marijka Gooding, Gregory Mackay and/or Dan Hayward.

Comics creators draw for their lives in a race against time – and each other! Featuring Meredith Gran (Octopus Pie), David Malki (Wondermark), Carly Monardo, KC Green (Gunshow), Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics), and Chris Hastings (Dr. McNinja).

2:45 - 3:45pm     Writing Life

These four cartoonists tell the most personal kind of stories – stories from their own lives.  This program explores what’s involved in memoir.  How accurately can memory and representative artwork depict real life?  And are there kinds of stories that cannot be told? Featuring Raina Telgemeier (Smile, Drama), Derf (My Friend Dahmer), Ulli Lust (Today is the Last Day of the Rest of Your Life), and Lucy Knisley (Relish). Moderated by Robin Brenner.

4:00 - 5:00pm     Spotlight: Michael Kupperman

Acclaimed American comics artist and humourist Michael Kupperman (Tales Designed to Thrizzle) discusses his life, work, and upcoming projects in this special TCAF Spotlight program.  Perhaps certain special guests will drop by?
